Ghost is a clean, modern CMS aimed at writers and newsletter publishers. If you're actively writing on Ghost, stay on Ghost. If you've stopped writing but the archive is still live, static migration cuts the cost without retiring the content.

What Ghost is

Ghost is a Node.js-based CMS focused on professional publishing — newsletters, magazines, indie writers. Its hosted plan starts at $9/month.

We've seen Ghost sites become 'archive sites' once a project ends or a newsletter pivots. The Ghost subscription keeps running ($9–25/month minimum) for content that hasn't changed in a year. That's exactly the cohort our service exists for.

Ghost has a clean export (JSON), so the migration is technically smooth. The result is a static archive that costs nothing to keep online.

What to know before migrating

  • If you're still actively publishing, don't migrate. Ghost's editor is the reason to use Ghost.
  • If you have an active membership/subscription with Ghost Members, we can't migrate that. The static version is content-only.
  • Ghost's themes are theme-specific HTML; we render rather than convert, so the visual result is exact.

Stays the same

  • Every post, page, tag, and author URL
  • RSS feed (regenerated as static XML)
  • Visual design and theme
  • Sitemap and meta tags

What changes

  • No more Ghost subscription
  • No more Members feature (intentionally — see above)
  • No more newsletter sends from Ghost (use a separate ESP if you start writing again)

Our take

Ghost is a great tool for active writers and a poor tool for archives. Migration is the natural exit when the publishing rhythm ends but the content should remain.

Questions

Can I keep my Ghost members after migration?

No. Static sites can't have authenticated content gates. If members and paywalls matter, stay on Ghost.

What about my newsletter list?

Export it from Ghost (CSV) and import to Buttondown, Beehiiv, or any ESP. We don't touch the newsletter side; only the website.
