Migrating ColdFusion to static

ColdFusion sites are the most stubbornly-running corner of the legacy web. Built in 2005, last updated in 2012, hosted on a Windows server in a colocation facility someone is still paying $200/month for.

What ColdFusion is

ColdFusion is Adobe's tag-based scripting language for web applications, dating to 1995. Many institutional and professional-services sites still run on it.

We've successfully assessed real ColdFusion brochure sites in the wild — small professional practices at the ~30-page scale, green verdicts, clean migration paths. CFM pages render to HTML the same way every server-side page renders to HTML, so capturing the output is the same job we do everywhere else.

The migration result is the win: no more Adobe ColdFusion license fee. No more Windows Server CALs. No more 'we have to find a CF developer in 2025' problem when something breaks.

What to know before migrating

  • Some CF apps use CFFORM with server-side validation tied to dynamic flows. Static replacements (Formspree, Cloudflare Forms) handle the common cases.
  • If your site has live database-backed search or reporting, the dynamic parts can't migrate. The static parts (your content pages) can.
  • Internal tooling (admin dashboards, intake forms with workflow) does not migrate. The public-facing brochure parts do.

Stays the same

  • Every .cfm URL, mapped to its rendered HTML output
  • All public content pages
  • Sitemap, meta tags, and visual design

What changes

  • No more Adobe CF license renewal
  • No more Windows Server hosting
  • No more 'find me a ColdFusion developer' search

Our take

ColdFusion sites are often the highest-savings migrations because the existing hosting is the most expensive line item. You've been paying institutional-grade hosting fees for content that hasn't changed in a decade.

Questions

Will the .cfm extensions in my URLs still work?

Yes. We preserve every URL exactly as crawlable visitors and search engines see it today, including .cfm extensions. Search consoles see no break.
